The Tata Indica (Old Model), launched on December 30, 1998, was India’s first fully indigenous passenger car developed by Tata Motors. Designed to offer a spacious interior, fuel efficiency, and affordability, the Indica quickly became a household name and revolutionized the Indian hatchback market. It featured a robust build, a 1.4-liter diesel or petrol engine, and a distinctive, aerodynamic design that appealed to Indian families and taxi operators alike.
The car was known for its tagline “More car per car”, symbolizing value for money and practicality. With several updates over the years, including the popular Indica V2, the model remained in production for nearly two decades before being discontinued in 2018. The Indica set the foundation for Tata Motors’ future passenger vehicles and played a key role in establishing Tata as a major player in the Indian automotive industry.
